The spot-fin porcupinefish (Diodon hystrix) is a cool ocean fish. It's also called the spotted porcupinefish or just porcupinefish. This fish belongs to a group of fish known as Diodontidae.

The spot-fin porcupinefish is a medium-sized fish. It can grow up to about 91 centimeters (about 3 feet) long! But most of the time, they are around 40 centimeters (about 1.3 feet).
This fish has a long body and a round head. It has big, round eyes that stick out and a large mouth that often stays open. Its fins are special:

Where Do Porcupinefish Live?
You can find the porcupinefish all over the world! They live in warm, tropical and subtropical ocean waters. They have even been seen a couple of times in the Mediterranean Sea.
When porcupinefish are young, they swim in the open ocean. They stay there until they are about 20 centimeters long. As adults, they prefer to live in calm ocean areas like lagoons. They also like the top parts of coral or rocky reefs. You can find them from about 1 to 50 meters deep. During the day, they often hide under ledges or in caves.

The porcupinefish is a carnivore, meaning it eats other animals. Its favorite foods include:
