Spring Branch is a small city located in Comal County, Texas, in the United States. It is home to about 250 people. The community decided to become an official city through a vote on November 3, 2015. Spring Branch officially became a city on November 19, 2015.

The area was first settled by German families in the 1800s. Spring Branch gets its name from a creek fed by a natural spring. This creek flows into the nearby Guadalupe River.

The Story of Spring Branch

A big part of Spring Branch, especially the area near the Guadalupe River, was first settled by a German man named Adam Becker (1815–1901). Adam Becker traveled to Texas in 1845. He joined Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels to help start a new settlement. This settlement was for the German Emigration Company.

Becker helped build the city of Fredericksburg, Texas. He also helped with other parts of the new German settlements. He married Elizabeth Monken. By 1852, he had built his own home in what is now Spring Branch. On his land, he raised cattle. The house he built was made from local stone and wood from the Guadalupe River. Adam Becker became a United States citizen in 1860. When he passed away in 1901, he was buried in the cemetery on his land.

Becoming an Official City

The idea to make Spring Branch an official city started because people were worried. They thought the larger city of Bulverde, which is to the south, might try to take over their area. In May 2015, Bulverde voted for a new rule. This rule would let them take over nearby areas, including parts of Spring Branch.

People who supported Spring Branch becoming its own city also wanted to have local control. They wanted to keep the unique feel of their community. Some people were against the idea. They wondered if a small community could afford to run a city and provide services. Others wanted to stay independent. But if they had to choose, they preferred having their own city over becoming part of Bulverde.

The request to put the issue on the ballot was approved on August 20, 2015. On November 3, 2015, people voted. Out of 80 votes, 51 (about 64%) were for becoming a city. 29 votes (about 36%) were against it. Voters also chose a mayor and two commissioners. On November 12, the election results were confirmed. Spring Branch officially became a city on November 19.

The elected mayor, James Mayer, and commissioners Brad Hockman and Danny Moore, took their oaths on December 11, 2015.
