Springton Reservoir is a large lake in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. It is also known as Springton Lake or Geist Reservoir. This special lake holds water for people to drink. It was made in 1931 by building a dam across Crum Creek.

The reservoir covers about 391 acres. That's like 300 football fields! It is looked after by a company called Essential Utilities. The lake is located across three different townships: Newtown Township, Marple Township, and Upper Providence Township.

What is Springton Reservoir?

A reservoir is like a big, artificial lake. People build reservoirs to store water. This water is then used for many things. Springton Reservoir's main job is to provide clean drinking water. It helps supply water to homes and businesses in the area.

Building the Reservoir

Springton Reservoir was created a long time ago. Workers built a large dam in 1931. This dam blocked the flow of Crum Creek. As the creek water backed up, it formed the big lake we see today. The dam is located near Pennsylvania Route 252.

Why is it Important?

This reservoir is very important for the community. It makes sure that people have enough clean water. Water from the reservoir goes through a cleaning process. After cleaning, it is safe to drink. This makes Springton Reservoir a vital resource.

Animals of Springton Lake

Even though it's a drinking water source, many animals live in and around Springton Reservoir. The lake is home to many kinds of fish. You can find largemouth bass and smallmouth bass here. There are also crappie and other small fish. Larger fish like muskie, trout, and catfish also swim in its waters.

A special bird, the bald eagle, also lives near the reservoir. There is a bald eagle nest on the Upper Providence side of the lake. These majestic birds hunt for fish in the reservoir. Security teams from Aqua America patrol the reservoir during the day. They help keep the area safe and protect the water supply.
