Discovering Springtown's Past
Springtown was first called Littleton's Springs. This name came from an early settler named Joseph Ward. The town got its current name, Springtown, in the mid-1870s.
When Springtown Became a Town
The town opened its first post office in 1875. Springtown officially became an incorporated town in 1884. This means it gained its own local government.
Growth and Changes Over Time
The town's population growth slowed down during and after the Great Depression. This was a tough economic time in the United States. However, after 1960, more people started moving to Springtown. Many of them worked in nearby Fort Worth and traveled back and forth.
College Hill Institute: An Early School
Springtown was once home to a school called College Hill Institute. The State of Texas officially recognized this school in 1884. It taught students for ten years before closing its doors in 1894.
