The Srinagar District is an important administrative area in Jammu and Kashmir, which is managed by India. It is one of the 20 districts in this region.
Srinagar District is located in the middle of the Kashmir Valley. According to the 2011 national census, it is the second-most populated district in the union territory, right after Jammu District. The famous city of Srinagar is the summer capital of the territory. The city of Jammu serves as the winter capital. Srinagar city is also the main office, or headquarters, for the Srinagar District.

How Srinagar District is Managed
Srinagar District is divided into two main parts called Sub-Divisions. These are Srinagar West and Srinagar East.
Tehsils of Srinagar
The district also has seven smaller administrative areas known as Tehsils:
- Central Shalteng
- Chanapora/ Natipora
- Eidgah
- Khanyar
- Pantha Chowk
- Srinagar North
- Srinagar South
Community Blocks
There are also four Blocks in Srinagar District. These blocks help with local development and services:
- Harwan
- Qammerwari
- Khonmoh
- Srinagar
Each of these blocks includes many panchayats and villages. Panchayats are local self-governing bodies.
Politics in Srinagar District
Srinagar District is part of one parliamentary area called Srinagar. This area sends a representative to the national parliament.
The district also has eight assembly areas. These areas elect members to the local assembly:
