Even before that, in the year 690, the area where the church stands was given to Glastonbury Abbey. An abbey is like a large monastery where monks live and work. The church and its land stayed connected to Glastonbury Abbey for many centuries. This connection lasted until 1539. At that time, many monasteries and abbeys in England were closed down during an event known as the dissolution of the monasteries.
Restoring the Church's Beauty
Over the years, old buildings like churches need repairs and updates. In the 19th century, the Church of St Christopher had a big makeover. This was part of a time called the Victorian restoration. During this period, many old churches were repaired and improved.
Reverend A. J. Stephenson and his son, J. H. Stephenson, led these important restoration efforts. More work to make the church look its best happened in 1909. These efforts helped keep the church strong and beautiful for future generations.
