A Look Back in Time

How the Church Grew

St Luke's Church is very old, first built around the 1100s. In the 1300s, it became bigger. Workers added new parts to the main area, called the nave, and built the church tower.

The church was made even larger much later, between 1878 and 1882. An architect named Nicholas Joyce from Stafford added two more sections to the nave and the side aisles.

Later Changes

In 1949, a small chapel was built inside the church. This chapel was created to remember people who served in wars. A few years later, in 1957, the old front entrance, or porch, was replaced with a new one.

The Church Organ

Music in the Church

St Luke's Church has a large musical instrument called an organ. This organ was first built in 1914 by a company named Norman and Beard. Organs like this make music using many pipes, creating a very grand sound.
