St Mary's Church is a special old church in East Leake, Nottinghamshire. It belongs to the Church of England.

It's considered a very important building. This means it has amazing history or design. The government department that looks after culture and sport has given it a special "Grade I listed" status.

History of St Mary's Church

This church is very old! It was first built a long, long time ago, during the Norman period. That was around 1066 to 1154. Later, more parts were added in the Middle Ages.

For many years, the church was named after Saint Leonard. But in the 1300s, people decided to change its name. They chose St Mary because she was a very popular saint.

In the 1800s, a part of the church called the chancel fell down. So, in 1886, a big repair project happened. A person named W. S. Weatherley helped fix it up. This kind of big repair is called a Victorian restoration.

Beautiful Stained Glass Windows

Look up at the windows! St Mary's Church has beautiful stained glass windows. These colorful windows were made by famous artists. Some of the artists include Charles Eamer Kempe, James Powell and Sons, and Heaton, Butler and Bayne.

The Church Organ

The church has a special musical instrument called a pipe organ. It was built in 1914 by a company called Ingram. You can find out more about this organ on the National Pipe Organ Register website.

In April 2021, a new organist named Richard Babington started playing for the church.
