A Look Back in Time
St Michael's Church is very old, first built in the 1300s. That's a long time ago! Most of the church, except for one part called the chancel, was rebuilt in 1863. This big project was done by architects named Giles and Brookhouse from Derby.
New Heights and Beautiful Details
During the rebuilding, the church's tower and spire were made much taller. They now reach about 105 feet (32 m) high! That's 25 feet (7.6 m) taller than the old one. The east window was filled with amazing stained glass made by a company called Hardman & Co. The floor in the chancel was also decorated with special Minton tiles.
The Church Organ
The organ inside the church is also quite old. It was built in 1881 by a company called Harston & Son. This musical instrument helps lead the singing during church services.
