History of St Saviour's Church

The first stone for St Saviour's Church was put in place on 7 June 1875. The church was a gift from a generous person named Rev Frederick George Burnaby. He was a church leader who used to work in a place called Barkestone-le-Vale.

Building Design and Construction

The church was designed by a famous architect named Sir George Gilbert Scott. He designed it in a style called "13th century Early English." This style uses tall, narrow windows and pointed arches. It was popular in England a long time ago. The building work was done by a company called Messrs Osborne Brothers. A person named Mr G. W. Wood was in charge of making sure the work was done right. The church was officially opened and blessed on 21 June 1877 by the Bishop of Peterborough.
