Stake Hill is a quiet, spread-out suburb located in the northeastern part of Mandurah, Western Australia. It's a place where homes are on large blocks of land, surrounded by nature. The area is part of the Shire of Murray local government area. In 2021, about 469 people lived in Stake Hill.
History of Stake Hill
The name "Stake Hill" actually comes from a hill located about 15 kilometers north of the suburb itself. There's even a road called Stakehill Road that goes around the hill, but it doesn't reach the suburb.
For a long time, this area was mostly empty. People started building homes here in the 1990s. These homes were part of two special areas designed for country-style living. In 2009, it became much easier to get to Stake Hill. This was because the Kwinana Freeway was extended closer to Mandurah, making travel faster.
Geography and Nature
Stake Hill is located near the border of the City of Rockingham to the north. To the west, you'll find Mandurah Road, and to the south, Lakes and Lakelands Roads. Gull Road is on the eastern side.
The suburb has lots of open space. Homes are built on very large plots of land, often around 2 hectares (about 5 acres) each. These properties are separated by areas of natural bushland. You can also find some wetland areas in the southeast. The Serpentine River flows through Stake Hill, creating several large lakes and pools.
Getting Around Stake Hill
Stake Hill does not have public transport like buses or trains directly serving the area. However, it's very easy to get to the main roads.
The suburb is connected to the Kwinana Freeway through the Lymon Road interchange. Also, a new highway called Mandjoogoordap Drive has been completed. This highway makes it a quick 10-minute drive from the interchange directly into the heart of Mandurah. Mandjoogoordap Drive also offers a fast way to reach the train and bus station, making it easier to travel further.
