Smokey's Hockey Journey
Smokey Reddick played ice hockey for twelve years as a professional. He spent most of his career playing in the ECHL (a hockey league in North America) and also played in Europe. While in Europe, he played in the Slovenian League and the Alpine League.
Setting Records
During the 1991-1992 season, Smokey played for the Johnstown Chiefs. He set an amazing team record that year! He won 25 games in a single season as a goaltender. This record was super tough to beat and stood for ten years! Another player, Frederic Deschênes, finally matched it in 2001-2002. Later, in the 2007-2008 season, Chiefs goalie Ryan Nie broke the record by winning 29 games.
Playing After Pro Hockey
After he stopped playing professional hockey in 2002, Smokey didn't completely leave the ice. He joined a team called the Ile des Chenes North Stars. They played in a league in Manitoba, Canada. Smokey helped the North Stars win many games in a special tournament called the Allan Cup.
Playing for His Country
Smokey Reddick also had the chance to play for the Slovenian national team. This means he represented Slovenia in big international hockey tournaments. He played in the IIHF World Championship three times: in 1997, 2001, and 2002.
His Hockey Family
Hockey runs in Smokey's family! His younger brother is Eldon "Pokey" Reddick, who was also a professional ice hockey goaltender and played in the NHL. Smokey's nephew, Bryce Reddick, also plays hockey as a forward for Michigan Tech.
