Stanford Township is a special kind of local government area called a township. It is located in Isanti County, Minnesota, in the United States. In the year 2000, about 2,075 people lived there.

What is Stanford Township's History?

Stanford Township was once a small farming area. It had a post office from around 1898 to 1901. There was also a sawmill near a creek.

The Old Schoolhouse

A school was open from about 1890 to 1945. It was across from the old post office. After 1945, it became a house. In 1995, the school building was in very bad shape and was burned down. A new home was built in its place.

Who Settled Here?

Most of the first people to settle in Stanford Township were English settlers from the eastern parts of the United States. Later, people from Germany and Scandinavia also moved there. The area was mainly a place for farms. The old country school was the last sign of the original community.

Stanford Township Today

Today, you won't find many signs of the old community. There are only two homes on small pieces of land. These are common in this rural (countryside) area.

A road called Sullivan Woods Trail has become more fancy. It has large, expensive homes. Many people living there now travel to cities for work. This is different from the first people who lived there.
