Stanwell is a small rural town in Queensland, Australia. It is part of the Rockhampton Region. In 2021, about 301 people lived in Stanwell.

Stanwell's Location
Stanwell is found along the Capricorn Highway. This is a main road in Queensland. A railway line also runs through the town. A creek called Neerkol Creek flows nearby.
Stanwell's Past
When people first settled in Stanwell, they worked in different jobs. Some were dairy farmers. Others worked in quarries, digging up rocks. Many also worked for the railway.
Stanwell State School first opened its doors on November 7, 1873. A place to send mail started around 1874. It became a full post office in 1880.
A church for the Primitive Methodists opened in Stanwell in 1881. The land for the church was given by the Methodists. Other churches also helped build it. This meant other church groups could use it too.
In 1893, a quarry near Stanwell provided sandstone. This stone was used to build St Joseph's Roman Catholic Cathedral in Rockhampton.
A special board was put up in the School of Arts Hall. It honored people from Stanwell who served in World War I and World War II.
Building the Stanwell Power Station began in 1993. It started making electricity in 1996.
