Steal a Brainrot is a very popular multiplayer video game released in 2025 on the Roblox platform. In the game, players collect fun characters called Brainrots, which are based on a popular internet meme. These characters help players earn in-game money.

The game is famous for being one of only two games on Roblox to have more than 20 million people playing at the same time. The first game to do this was Grow a Garden. Steal a Brainrot became a big hit on social media, where players share tips and exciting videos of the game's competitive action.

How to Play the Game

Stealing Brainrots from other players is a key part of the game.

The main goal in Steal a Brainrot is to collect as many Brainrot characters as you can and become wealthy in the game. Brainrots are cube-shaped characters based on the funny Italian brainrot internet meme.

Your Main Goal

When you start, you get a base to keep your Brainrots and a little bit of game money. In the center of the game map, a conveyor belt brings out new Brainrots that you can buy. Each Brainrot you own gives you more money every few seconds.

To get ahead, you can either buy rarer Brainrots from the conveyor belt or try to steal them from other players' bases. This makes the game feel a lot like the classic sport Capture the Flag.

Defending Your Collection

Other players will try to steal your Brainrots, so you have to protect your base. Your base has a special button that creates a shield. This shield lasts for 60 seconds and keeps your collection safe from other players.

Players can also buy special gear from the game's store. You can use in-game money or Robux (Roblox's special currency) to buy things like traps to help defend your base or tools to help you steal from others.

Special Events and Progress

The game has a "rebirth" feature. This lets you reset your progress to start over with better abilities and more money. The game's developers also host special events where you can get rare, limited-edition characters. One writer described these events as a "sensory overload," meaning they are very exciting and full of action.

A Super Popular Game

Steal a Brainrot is one of the biggest games on Roblox. It often has an average of one million people playing at the exact same time. This is called "concurrent users" or CCU.

Breaking Records on Roblox

The game's popularity grew very quickly.

  • July 2025: The game reached 7 billion total visits and had 5 million people playing at once.
  • August 2025: It hit a new record of 20 million players at the same time. This was more than the popular game Fortnite, which once held the record with 15.3 million players.
  • August 23, 2025: A special event called an "admin war" was held between the creators of Steal a Brainrot and Grow a Garden. This event caused both games to break their records. Steal a Brainrot became the second Roblox game to pass 20 million CCU.
  • September 13, 2025: The game set a new personal record with a peak of 24 million players online at once.

Success in Fortnite

The game became so popular that Epic Games, the company that makes Fortnite, licensed it. An official version called Steal the Brainrot was released in Fortnite Creative.

This version also broke records, with 400,000 people playing at once. Later, on September 13, it hit a new peak of 500,000 players. For a short time, more people were playing it than Fortnite's main battle royale mode. The CEO of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, celebrated the game's success online. Because the game did so well, Epic Games added a new feature to allow Fortnite Creative makers to earn money from items sold in their games.

A Character's Short Visit

In early September, a character named Tung Tung Tung Sahur was removed from the game. This happened because there was a disagreement with the character's original creator over the permission to use it. This is known as a licensing dispute. The groups involved have said they are open to talking more to possibly bring the character back in the future.
