Steckborn was once a special area, like a county, in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland. Think of a canton as a state or a large region within a country. The main town, or capital, of this area was also called Steckborn.
What Was Steckborn District?
A "district" in Switzerland is a bit like a county or a group of towns that work together. The Steckborn district was one of these groups. It included several smaller towns and villages, all connected to the main town of Steckborn.
Towns in the Steckborn District
The district of Steckborn was made up of 12 different towns and villages. These included places like Berlingen, Eschenz, Herdern, and Müllheim. The biggest town in the district was Steckborn itself.
In 2005, the whole district had about 17,624 people living in it. It covered an area of about 132.9 square kilometers. That's roughly 51 square miles, which is a good size for a group of towns!

Why Districts Change
Over time, countries sometimes change how their areas are organized. This can happen to make things work better or to group towns differently. The Steckborn district is now a "former" district because these areas were reorganized in Thurgau.
