Stedman Pearson (born June 29, 1964 – died March 10, 2025) was a British singer. He was best known for being a member of the pop group Five Star. He performed in the group with his four brothers and sisters.

Early Life and Music Career

Joining Five Star

Stedman Pearson was born in Romford, Essex, England. This was on June 29, 1964. He was the oldest of five children. Before music, he studied dance and fashion in college.

In 1983, when he was 19, Stedman joined his younger siblings in the group Five Star. Their father, Buster Pearson, who was a musician, created and managed the group. Stedman sang backing vocals. His interest in dance and fashion was very important to the group. He helped design some of their famous matching stage outfits. These sparkling costumes and their synchronized dance moves often made people compare them to The Jackson 5.

Five Star's Success

Five Star became very popular in the mid-1980s. Their second album, Silk & Steel, reached number one in the UK. It sold over 1.2 million copies there. By the end of the 1980s, they had fifteen songs in the UK Top 40. They also had four albums in the Top 20. Three of these albums sold enough to reach platinum status.

In 1987, Pearson and his siblings performed at the Brit Awards. They won the award for "Best Group." However, their popularity began to fade in the 1990s. Even so, the group continued to make music.

Later Years with Five Star

In 1989, the Pearson family had to move out of their large home in Berkshire. They had bought it in 1987. They first moved to Hatfield. Then they moved to the United States. They hoped to make their music career successful again. But they did not find more success in the 1990s.

By 2001, Five Star became a trio. Only Stedman, Denise, and Lorraine Pearson remained. This version of the group performed on the Here and Now Tour in 2002. They played alongside other pop acts from the 1980s. Stedman continued to perform as "Five Star" with his sister Denise. They had three backing dancers. They made appearances at Butlins Holiday Camps in the UK until 2008.

Songwriting Contributions

Stedman Pearson was not the main songwriter for the group. But he did get credit for some songs. He helped write "Pure Energy" (1986). He also wrote "Stone Court" (1987). "Stone Court" was an instrumental song. It was named after the family's mansion in Berkshire. He also co-wrote the song "Feelings" with his sister Doris. This song was on the group's 1990 self-titled album.

Life After Five Star

After his successful years with Five Star, Pearson started other businesses. For a while, he ran a limousine hire service. He also taught dance at a school in London.

In September 2006, Pearson used his dance skills on TV. He appeared as a contestant on the UK Channel 5 show The All Star Talent Show. He finished in third place. In 2007, Pearson said he was recording his first solo album. However, this album was never released. In 2008, Pearson was on the BBC reality show Celebrity Scissorhands. In this show, celebrities became hairdressers to help Children in Need. In September 2009, Pearson began working at the Derngate Gym in Northampton. He held a weekly 'jazz dance' class there.
