Denise Lisa Maria Pearson (born on 13 June 1968), also known as Deniece Pearson, is an English singer and songwriter. She was the main singer for the British pop and R&B group Five Star. This group included Denise and her four brothers and sisters. Their father, Buster Pearson, created and managed the group starting in 1983. The group officially stopped performing together in 2001, but they have had some reunions since then.

Denise Pearson's Music Career

Denise Pearson was not only the lead singer of Five Star, but she also wrote many of their songs. She wrote "Stay Out of My Life" in 1986, which was the only song written by the group that reached the top ten charts.

Other songs she wrote for Five Star include "Hard Race" (1987), "There's a Brand New World" (1988), and "What About Me Baby" (1990). She also wrote slower songs called ballads like "Live Giving Love" (1987) and "Let Me Be Yours" (1988). Some of her faster, upbeat songs are "I'm Still Waiting" (1990) and "Show Me" (1994).

In 1986, Five Star was nominated for a Grammy Award. This was for Denise's song "First Avenue," which was on the B-side of their first hit song, "All Fall Down." The nomination was in the "Best Rhythm and Blues Instrumental Performance" category.

Life and Music After Five Star

After Five Star, Denise worked on other music projects. In 1997, she recorded a song called "This Pain" as a duet with Matt Goss, who was a singer from the band Bros. She also sang backing vocals for the artist Tamia in 2001 on the song "Stranger in My House."

Working with Other Artists

In 2005, Denise Pearson worked with singer-songwriter Ryan Tedder from the group OneRepublic. They wrote several songs together, including "Over You," which Denise sang. They also created a new version of Five Star's 1986 hit song "System Addict."

In 2007, Denise shared that she was creating her own solo music. In May 2008, she filmed a video for one of her new songs. She also performed several shows as Five Star with her brother Stedman to celebrate the group's 25th anniversary.

Performing on Stage

In 2009, Denise Pearson performed in her first West End Theatre show. It was called Thriller – Live and featured music by Michael Jackson. A magazine called City Life said she was "amazingly pitch perfect" as a female version of Michael Jackson.

In September 2011, Denise was one of the main singers in a new West End show called Respect La Diva. This show ran for a short time at the Garrick Theatre.

In March 2012, Denise appeared on the BBC talent show, The Voice UK. She joined Tom Jones's team after singing "Fighter" by Christina Aguilera. She was known as Deniece Pearson on the show. In the next round, Tom Jones chose another singer, Ruth Brown, over her for the live finals.

Pantomime and Tours

In December 2012, Denise Pearson acted in her first pantomime, which is a type of musical play. She played the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella at the Milton Keynes Theatre. She sang three songs in the show, and two of them, "Let It Be" and "Once Upon A Time," were released on a mini-album called Deniece Pearson.

With new management, Denise supported The Jacksons on their Unity tour in the UK in February and March 2013.

In September 2013, Pearson released an EP (a short album) called "Freak Dance." She also made a music video for the song. The EP included a song called "Rafiki Yangu," which means 'my friend' in Swahili. This song was a tribute to Nelson Mandela and celebrated Africa's fight for peace. All the money from this song's sales went to the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund (UK).

Denise Pearson's first solo album, Imprint, was released in June 2014. It included work from US producer Wayne Gerard.

Throughout 2015, Denise toured the UK with her siblings Stedman, Doris, and Delroy. They performed at concerts that celebrated music from the 1980s.

In 2016, Denise appeared as a guest singer on Top of the Pops on New Year's Day. She performed Sigala's number one hit song "Easy Love."

Denise Pearson was also a member of the UK jury for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

On 9 August 2023, a new single called "Forever Young" was released. It included new versions of "System Addict" and "Rain Or Shine." "Forever Young" is the first single from her second album, "Free-Queen-See."

Deniece performed a show on 12 August 2023 to celebrate her 40th anniversary in music. She had a second show on 30 September 2023.

Personal Life

In the early 1990s, Denise Pearson moved to California in the United States with her family. She got married and became Denise Saneinia. Even though her marriage ended in the late 1990s, she still uses the name Denise Saneinia for her songwriting. However, she performs under the name Denise Pearson. She had a son in 1994 and a daughter a year later. Denise moved back to the UK with her children in 2005.
