Steele City plays an important role in the Keystone Pipeline system. This system is a large network of pipes that carries oil.

What is the Keystone Pipeline?

The Keystone Pipeline brings crude oil (which is oil that hasn't been processed yet) from Hardisty, Alberta, in Canada. From Steele City, the pipeline splits. One part goes east to Wood River, Illinois. Another part goes south to Cushing, Oklahoma.

Why is it important?

The pipeline helps move oil to special factories called refineries. These refineries are in places like Illinois and the Gulf Coast of the United States. They turn the crude oil into useful products like gasoline. The company that built this pipeline is called TransCanada Corporation.
