Settlements Steenburg Lake

Steenburg Lake is a beautiful lake located in Limerick, a township in Hastings County, Ontario, Canada. It's about 1.1 kilometers (0.7 miles) west of Highway 62. The lake is part of a big water system that eventually flows into the Trent River and then into Lake Ontario.

Exploring Steenburg Lake

Steenburg Lake is quite large, stretching about 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) long and 2.8 kilometers (1.7 miles) wide. It sits at an elevation of about 316 meters (1,037 feet) above sea level. This means it's higher up than many other places.

Islands and Bays

The lake has several interesting features, including six named islands. These islands are Crab Island, Dewey's Island, Picket Island, Bateman's Island, Uncle Bob's Island, and Powers Island. Imagine exploring each one!

There are also two named bays, which are parts of the lake that curve inward from the main body of water. These are Adam's Bay and Austin's Bay. Two points of land, Sunset Point from the east and The Headland from the west, stick out into the middle of the lake.

Water Flow and Connections

Lakes are often connected to other bodies of water, and Steenburg Lake is no different. It has six places where water flows into it, called inflows. One of these is a named creek called Mud Creek, which brings water from Paddy's Lake to the southwest. The other five inflows are unnamed creeks that bring water from different directions: two from the northwest, one from the north, one from the northeast, and one from the east.

The main place where water flows out of Steenburg Lake is called Bass Creek. This creek carries water from Steenburg Lake into another nearby lake called Limerick Lake. From Limerick Lake, the water continues its journey through Beaver Creek, then into the Crowe River, and finally into the Trent River. The Trent River then flows into the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario, near Trenton. This whole system of connected waterways is called a drainage basin.

Nearby Places

The small community of Steenburg Lake is located right on the northwest bay of the lake. It's a place where people live and enjoy the beauty of the lake.
