Stefanie Joosten (/ˈjstən/ YOH-stən, Dutch: [ˈsteːfaːni ˈjoːstə(n)]) is a talented Dutch actor, singer, and former model. She became widely known for her role as the character Quiet in the 2015 video game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. For this role, she provided the motion capture (which records movement), voice, and even her own appearance for the character.

Early Life and Education

Stefanie Joosten was born in Roermond, a city in the Limburg region of the southeastern Netherlands. She went to Bisschoppelijk College Broekhin in Roermond. There, she studied in a special program that taught both Dutch and English.

As she grew up, Stefanie was very interested in Japanese pop culture, often called "otaku culture." This led her to study Japanese language and culture at Leiden University. In 2009, she spent a year in Kyoto, Japan, as part of a student exchange program. After this amazing experience, she decided she wanted to move to Tokyo after finishing her degree back home in the Netherlands.

Stefanie Joosten's Career Journey

Starting in Japan

When Stefanie was in Japan, she met several modeling agencies. These agencies were specifically looking for models from Western countries. She began taking on modeling jobs in 2011. After doing many small acting parts and commercials, she received a call from a mysterious agent. This agent was looking for models to help with a secret video game project.

Stefanie had loved Japanese games since she was a child. She became curious when she recognized one of the people during the auditions. She later found out it was the famous video game creator Hideo Kojima. This gave her a clue about the big project she had auditioned for.

Becoming Quiet in Metal Gear Solid

Stefanie was chosen to be both the visual model and the voice actor for Quiet. Quiet is a very important female character in the Metal Gear game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Stefanie also sang the song "Quiet's Theme," which is part of the game's original music.

Other Acting and Music Roles

In early 2019, Stefanie joined the cast of Spacelords as a character named Sööma. In 2021, she became part of the game Wanted: Dead. She also contributed to the game's music and helped direct the cinematic scenes.

Stefanie released her first album, called Singing to the Sky, in 2022. The famous music producer Giorgio Moroder was the main producer for this album. It included songs written by Moroder and other talented writers like Pete Bellotte and Tom Whitlock. This was a special event because it was the first time in 40 years that Moroder had put his name on an album by a new artist. Other musicians like Matt Sorum and Kenny Wayne Shepherd also appeared on the record.

In 2023, Stefanie Joosten announced a new album titled Intermission. The first song from this album, "Tryouts for the Human Race," is a special collaboration with Giorgio Moroder. It is a new version of a song he co-wrote with Ron and Russell Mael from the band Sparks back in 1979.
