Steve Harris is an American actor. He was born on December 3, 1965. He is well-known for his roles in popular TV shows and movies.
Steve Harris played Eugene Young in the TV show The Practice. This was a legal drama. He also played Detective Isaiah "Bird" Freeman in the NBC drama Awake. In movies, he was Charles McCarter in Tyler Perry’s Diary of a Mad Black Woman. For his work on The Practice, Steve Harris was nominated for two Emmy Awards.
Early Life and Education
Steve Harris grew up in Chicago, Illinois. His father, John Henry Harris, was a bus driver. His mother, Mattie Harris, was a housewife. Steve has an older brother, Wood Harris, who is also an actor.
Steve went to St. Joseph High School in Westchester, Illinois. This was a private school known for its great athletes. Steve played football there as a running back and later as a linebacker. He played for Northern Illinois University, where he also studied drama. His football career ended because of an ankle injury. After college in 1989, Steve earned a master's degree in acting. He studied at the University of Delaware.
Acting Career Highlights
Steve Harris has appeared in many TV shows and films. Early in his career, he was in Law & Order. He also had a role in the first episode of Homicide: Life on the Street. In 2006, he was part of the TV series Heist. He also appeared in an episode of Grey's Anatomy. He was in several episodes of New York Undercover.
Steve Harris has been in many movies. These include Quarantine, Tyler Perry's Diary of a Mad Black Woman, and Bringing Down the House. Other films include The Rock, The Mod Squad, Takers, and Minority Report.
From 1997 to 2004, Steve Harris was a main actor in The Practice. He played Eugene Young for all eight seasons. He received two Emmy nominations for this role.
In 2013, Steve Harris starred in the TV film Let The Church Say Amen. This movie was directed by actress Regina King. It was based on a popular book. He also played Nelson Gates in the TV show Legends. This show aired on TNT from 2014 to 2015.
