Steven Daniel Hendrickson (born August 30, 1966 – died January 8, 2021) was an American football player. He played as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He was known for his strong play and for being part of a Super Bowl-winning team.

Early Life and College Football

Steve Hendrickson grew up in California. He went to Napa High School where he was an amazing football player. He played on the varsity team for all four years. His jersey number, 30, is the only one the school has ever retired. This means no other player at Napa High will ever wear that number.

After high school, Steve played college football for the California Golden Bears. He studied history while at college. In 1988, he was named the best defensive player at the Blue–Gray Football Classic. This was a special game for college football stars.

Professional Football Career

In 1989, Steve Hendrickson was chosen by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL Draft. This is when professional teams pick new players from college. He was picked in the sixth round.

Steve played seven seasons in the NFL. He played for several teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, San Diego Chargers, Houston Oilers, and Philadelphia Eagles.

One of his biggest achievements was winning Super Bowl XXIV with the San Francisco 49ers. They won the championship game on January 28, 1990. Even though he was a defensive player, Steve sometimes played as a running back for the Chargers. He even scored a touchdown in a playoff game in 1993.

Later Life and Passing

Steve Hendrickson lived in Napa, California. He had two children, Courtney and Kyle. They both went to college.

After his football career, Steve faced some health challenges. He passed away on January 8, 2021, at his home in Nampa, Idaho.
