Stevie Jackson's Musical Journey

Early Musical Interests

Stevie Jackson grew up listening to many different bands. Some of his favorite groups included Madness, ABBA, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), Depeche Mode, and ABC. The very first album he ever bought was Reggatta de Blanc by The Police, which came out in 1979.

Joining Belle and Sebastian

Before he joined Belle and Sebastian, Stevie was part of a band called The Moondials. They even released a song with a record label called Electric Honey. This same label later released Belle and Sebastian's first album, Tigermilk. Stevie enjoyed his time with The Moondials.

It took a lot of effort for Stuart Murdoch, the main singer of Belle and Sebastian, to convince Stevie to join his new group. Stuart used to perform his songs alone at "open mic" nights in Glasgow. These are events where anyone can get on stage and perform. Stevie first saw Stuart play at one of these nights at The Halt Bar.

When Belle and Sebastian first started, Stuart Murdoch wrote most of the songs. But after their third album, The Boy With The Arab Strap, other band members, including Stevie, began to write songs too. Stevie has written many songs for the band, including their 2001 single "Jonathan David". He also wrote "To Be Myself Completely" for their 2006 album, The Life Pursuit.

Other Musical Projects

In 2012, Stevie Jackson worked with members of a Glasgow band called The Wellgreen. They recorded a version of George McCrae's song "Rock Your Baby". This recording was for a special CD called "Super Hits Of The Seventies," which helped raise money for a US radio station called WFMU. Stevie has also worked on several projects with another musician named Roy Moller.
