Stitch & Ai (Chinese: 安玲与史迪奇; pinyin: Ān líng yǔ shǐ dí qí; literally "An Ling and Stitch") is a fun Chinese cartoon series. It's a spin-off from Disney's popular Lilo & Stitch movies and shows. This series is the third TV show in the Lilo & Stitch world. It follows the American Lilo & Stitch: The Series and the Japanese Stitch! anime.

The show has 13 episodes and introduces a new Chinese girl named Wang Ai Ling. She takes the place of Lilo from the original series and Yuna from the Japanese anime. The story takes place in the beautiful Huangshan mountains in Anhui, China.

Stitch & Ai first aired in China with a Mandarin Chinese voice-over from March 27 to April 6, 2017. The original English version was shown later, from February 5 to 27, 2018, on Disney Channel in Southeast Asia. Some episodes were also available for free online streaming in the United States on DisneyNow starting December 1, 2018, but they were later removed.

Story of Stitch & Ai

Stitch & Ai continues the adventures after the Lilo & Stitch movies and TV shows, including Leroy & Stitch. In this series, Stitch is captured by a group of alien criminals called the Jaboodies. They want to use him to create their own powerful, destructive experiment.

But another group of aliens, the Woolagongs, try to steal Stitch from the Jaboodies. This causes Stitch to escape and crash-land back on Earth, specifically in China's Huangshan mountains. There, he meets Ai, a brave local girl. Ai is worried about being separated from her older sister, Jiejie.

Stitch becomes Ai's "dog," and they help each other. Ai helps Stitch deal with the space criminals, and Stitch helps Ai stay in the mountains with her family. Later, Jumba and Pleakley arrive. They were sent by the United Galactic Federation to bring Stitch back. However, Ai and Jiejie convince them to let Stitch stay. Jumba and Pleakley decide to stay too, to keep an eye on Stitch and help his new family.

Jumba is worried because he secretly programmed Stitch with a special ability: to grow into a giant beast if his destructive side is triggered in a big city. He fears the space criminals might figure out how to make Stitch use this power.

Connections to Past Adventures

The series includes flashbacks to important moments from the Lilo & Stitch movies. These flashbacks are re-animated to look like the originals. You'll see scenes like:

Also, some characters from the past Lilo & Stitch stories make guest appearances. These include Captain Gantu, the Grand Councilwoman, Cobra Bubbles, and the Ice Cream Man.

How the Show Was Made

Stitch & Ai was created by Anhui Xinhua Media and Panimation Hwakai Media, working with Disney. Other companies like Showfun Animation also helped. The show first started airing on CCTV-14 on March 27, 2017.

Unlike the previous Stitch! series, this show was made with help from American Disney animators. This was done to make sure the cartoon looked similar to the original American movies and TV shows. Disney wanted to create this series to enter the Chinese animation market. The show was first made in English, and then dubbed into Mandarin Chinese.

Tony Craig, who was a producer for Lilo & Stitch: The Series, directed Stitch & Ai. He oversaw the storyboards, animation, designs, and editing. The voice recordings happened in Los Angeles, while Tony Craig worked from North Carolina.

The English version of the show first aired on Disney Channel Asia on February 5, 2018. Most of the series (all except episode nine, "The Phoenix") was later available for free online streaming in the United States on DisneyNow starting December 1, 2018. However, it was removed from the service in June 2019.
