Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park is a fun place to visit in West Virginia. It is a state park located right next to Stonewall Jackson Lake. This lake was created by building a dam on the West Fork River. The United States Army Corps of Engineers helped build the lake.
The park first opened in 1990. It had a place for camping, a marina for boats, and park offices. At first, the park had trouble paying for its building costs. A senator named Robert C. Byrd helped out. He created a plan so the state would not have to pay a large debt if they made big improvements to the park.
To make these improvements, the state worked with a private company. This company helped raise money to build a resort at the park. The resort is now managed by Benchmark Hospitality International. Even though its official name is Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park, the resort is often called Stonewall Resort for marketing.
You can find the resort in Lewis County, West Virginia. It's about 10 miles (16 km) south of Weston. It's also just a short drive from Interstate 79.
