Weston is a city in West Virginia, USA. It is the main town of Lewis County. In 2020, about 3,952 people lived there. Weston is famous for the Museum of American Glass in West Virginia and the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.

History of Weston

Weston started as a town in 1818. It was first called Preston, then Fleshersville, and finally Weston in 1819. The town officially became a city in 1846.

Weston is home to the former Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. This was a large hospital for people with mental health conditions. It is now a National Historic Landmark. The hospital closed in 1994.

Near Weston, you can find Jackson's Mill. This was the childhood home of Stonewall Jackson, a famous general. Since the 1920s, Jackson's Mill has been a special place for 4-H activities. It also has a conference center run by West Virginia University. This site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Weston has two important historic districts: the Weston Downtown Historic District and the Weston Downtown Residential Historic District. Other notable buildings on the National Register of Historic Places include the Jonathan M. Bennett House and the former Weston Colored School.

Geography and Climate

Weston is located about 15 miles (24 km) west of Buckhannon. It is also 20 miles (32 km) south of Clarksburg. The city sits along the West Fork River. This is where the West Fork River meets Stonecoal Creek.

The United States Census Bureau says Weston covers about 2.00 square miles (5.18 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.

Major roads cross through Weston. These include Interstate 79, U.S. Route 19, U.S. Route 33, and U.S. Route 119.
