Where the River Starts
The Sturgeon River begins its journey in a field. This starting point is about 2.7 kilometres (1.7 mi) southeast of a small place called Brooklyn. From there, the river starts to flow north.
The River's Path
As the Sturgeon River flows, it makes a turn towards the east. It then goes over a dam. The river continues its path, passing by the community of Milltown Cross. It also flows past a fun place called Buffaloland Provincial Park.
Joining Other Waters
The Sturgeon River gets bigger as it flows. It takes in water from another stream called the West Branch Sturgeon River. This stream joins the Sturgeon River from the left side. After that, the river turns to the southeast. It then takes in water from another stream, the South Branch Sturgeon River, which joins from the right side.
Where the River Ends
Finally, the Sturgeon River reaches its end at Sturgeon Bay. This bay is about 1.5 kilometres (0.9 mi) northwest of the community of Sturgeon. Sturgeon Bay is actually part of a larger area called St. Marys Bay. St. Marys Bay connects to the Northumberland Strait, which is part of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. All these waters eventually lead to the vast Atlantic Ocean.
River Branches
The Sturgeon River has two main branches, also known as tributaries, that flow into it:
- South Branch Sturgeon River (this one joins from the right side of the river)
- West Branch Sturgeon River (this one joins from the left side of the river)
