Sud is a special kind of neighborhood called a barrio in the town of Cidra, Puerto Rico. It is located on the island of Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 3,714 people lived in Sud.

History of Sud

How Puerto Rico Became Part of the U.S.

After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States. This means it is part of the U.S. but not a state.

Early Population Counts

In 1899, the United States government did a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that the combined population of Sud and a nearby barrio called Rincón was 901 people.
