Sugar Valley is a small place in Gordon County, Georgia, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own city government. You can find it northwest of Calhoun. A main road, SR 136, goes right through the middle of Sugar Valley.

How Sugar Valley Got Its Name
The name "Sugar Valley" might come from sugar maple trees. There used to be a group of these trees near where the community first started. A post office opened here in 1844, helping the area grow.
When Sugar Valley Was a Town
In 1887, the state government of Georgia officially made Sugar Valley a town. This meant it had its own local rules and leaders. However, in 1995, the town's official status was removed. Now, it's an unincorporated community, meaning it's governed by the county.
Where is Sugar Valley Located?
Sugar Valley is in the northwest part of Gordon County. The Oostanaula River flows nearby. About three miles to the west, you'll find the Ridge and Valley area of Georgia. Here, Horn Mountain stands tall, reaching over 1,800 feet high. Sugar Valley itself is much lower, at about 600 feet above sea level.
