Sugarland Run is a special kind of neighborhood called a planned community. It is also a census-designated place (CDP) in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. A CDP is an area that looks like a town but isn't officially a city.
In 2010, about 11,799 people lived here. By 2020, the number grew to an estimated 12,956 people. Sugarland Run is part of the larger Washington metropolitan area. This means it's close to Washington, D.C., about 26 miles (42 km) northwest by road.

Where is Sugarland Run?
Sugarland Run is located in the eastern part of Loudoun County, Virginia. It is about 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Virginia State Route 7. The community is also about 3 miles (4.8 km) south of the Potomac River.
The area gets its name from Sugarland Run, which is a stream. This stream flows towards the Potomac River along the east side of the community.
The U.S. Census Bureau says that Sugarland Run covers about 2.0 square miles (5.3 square kilometers). A very small part of this area, about 0.02 square miles (0.06 square kilometers), is water.
Sugarland Run is connected to other places by several roads. Virginia State Route 7 goes west to Leesburg. It goes east to Reston and Tysons. Another road, Virginia State Route 28, connects it to places like Sterling and Dulles International Airport to the south.

There are two elementary schools right in Sugarland Run. These are Sugarland Elementary and Meadowland Elementary. After elementary school, students attend Seneca Ridge Middle School.

For high school, students go to Dominion High School. This high school is also home to the Loudoun Academy of Science. This is a special program for high school students who are very talented in science.

Sugarland Run is also close to some colleges. The Northern Virginia Community College – Loudoun Campus (NVCC) is about 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast. George Mason University also has a campus nearby, about three miles northeast.

Sugarland Run is managed by groups called homeowners' associations (HOAs). These groups help keep the community nice and manage shared facilities. There are three main HOAs in Sugarland Run. They are the Sugarland Run Homeowners' Association, Sugarland Square Homeowners' Association, and Sugarland Run Townhouse Homeowners' Association.
The community has many great things for residents to use. These include:

- A very large swimming pool, known as an Olympic-size pool.
- A smaller wading pool just for young children.
- Two tennis courts, with one also set up for pickleball.
- Courts for playing basketball.
- A court for volleyball.

The homes in Sugarland Run were built in the 1970s and 1980s. There are four main types of single-family homes: Balboa, Laguna, Malibu, and Redondo. Some of these homes have garages, while others have carports. Many owners have added garages or made other changes, so the homes look a bit different from each other. There are also several types of townhouses.
Many homes in Sugarland Run are next to walking trails, woods, or streams. Unlike many other neighborhoods nearby, which have colonial-style homes, Sugarland Run homes are built in a modern style. This is called the California contemporary style. These homes often have high, sloped ceilings (called vaulted ceilings) and modern-looking outsides.
