Sulaiman Range facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Sulaiman Mountains, also known as the Kesai Mountains, are a large mountain range. They are found in southeastern Afghanistan and northern Balochistan province in Pakistan. These mountains act like a natural wall between the Iranian plateau and South Asia.

To the north of the Sulaiman Mountains, you'll find the dry highlands of the Hindu Kush Range. More than half of this area is over 2,000 meters (6,500 feet) high. The Sulaiman Range, along with the high land to its west, helps block humid winds. These winds come from the Indian Ocean. This creates very dry conditions in southern Afghanistan. East and south of the Sulaiman Mountains is the Indus River Delta. This area is flat and low, often floods, and has a lot of wild land.

Rivers of the Sulaiman Mountains

Several rivers flow from the Sulaiman mountain system. The main rivers include the Dori River and the Gomal River. These rivers are important for the areas they flow through.

Plants and Trees

The Sulaiman Mountains have different types of plants depending on the area. The southern slopes have very few plants. In the central parts, you can find wild olives and pistachios. There are also orchards with apples and cherries. Wild almonds and juniper trees also grow here.

The Ziarat District is a popular place for tourists. It is famous for its very large juniper forests. These forests are home to many old and tall juniper trees.
