Sulz was once a small town, or municipality, located in the Hochdorf area of the Lucerne region in Switzerland.

On January 1, 2009, Sulz joined with several other nearby towns. These towns were Gelfingen, Hämikon, Mosen, Müswangen, and Retschwil. They all became part of a larger town called Hitzkirch.

Where is Sulz Located?

Sulz covers an area of about 3.9 square kilometers (1.5 square miles). This is roughly the size of 540 football fields!

Most of the land in Sulz, about 65%, was used for farming. Forests covered nearly 30% of the area. The remaining small part, about 5%, was where buildings and roads were located.

How Sulz Joined Hitzkirch

In 2006, there was an idea to combine Hitzkirch with 10 other towns. However, this plan did not work out. Five of the eleven towns voted against it.

Later, a new, smaller plan was suggested. This plan was accepted. Sulz, along with five other towns, agreed to join Hitzkirch. The new, larger Hitzkirch municipality now covers about 24.62 square kilometers (9.51 square miles).
