Retschwil was once a small town, called a municipality, located in the Hochdorf district of Lucerne, Switzerland. On January 1, 2009, Retschwil joined with several other nearby towns to become part of a larger municipality called Hitzkirch.

Where Was Retschwil?
Retschwil covered an area of about 2.6 square kilometers (about 1 square mile). A big part of its land, about 67%, was used for farming. Forests covered about 25% of the area. The remaining land, about 7.8%, had buildings and roads.
Joining Hitzkirch
In 2006, there was an idea to merge Hitzkirch with 10 other towns. However, this plan did not work out because five of the towns voted against it.
Later, a new plan was made. This time, Retschwil and five other towns agreed to join Hitzkirch. These towns were Gelfingen, Hämikon, Mosen, Müswangen, and Sulz. When they all joined, the new, bigger Hitzkirch municipality covered about 24.62 square kilometers.
People of Retschwil
In 2007, Retschwil had a population of 174 people. Only a small number, about 1.7%, were from other countries. Over the 10 years before 2007, the number of people living in Retschwil went down slightly.
Most people in Retschwil spoke German, which was about 96.3% of the population in 2000. Portuguese was the second most common language, spoken by 2.6% of the people. French was spoken by a smaller group, about 0.5%.
Age and Education
In 2000, children and teenagers (up to 19 years old) made up about 34% of Retschwil's population. Adults (from 20 to 64 years old) were the largest group, at 56.5%. People over 64 years old made up about 9.4% of the population.
Many adults in Retschwil had a good education. About 74.2% of people aged 25 to 64 had finished either high school or gone on to higher education, like a university or a special college called a Fachhochschule.
