Sunfish is a small, unincorporated community in the northwest part of Edmonson County, Kentucky. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city. It's located close to the border of Grayson County. Sunfish is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) north-northeast of Bowling Green. It is also part of the larger Bowling Green area, which is called a Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History of Sunfish
The community of Sunfish gets its name from Sunfish Creek. This creek is a smaller stream that flows into the Green River. It helps drain the water from the western part of Edmonson County.
Early Settlers
Sunfish was settled even before Edmonson County was officially formed in 1825. This area was originally part of Grayson County. Many of the first people who settled here were veterans. They had fought in the Revolutionary War or the War of 1812. Several Catholic families were also among these early settlers.
Schools in Sunfish
For many years, there were different independent schools in the Sunfish community. However, in 1959, all the schools in Edmonson County were combined. The old Sunfish High School then became an elementary school. It taught students from first to eighth grade until 1979.
Life in Sunfish Today
Today, community life in Sunfish often happens around its three churches. One of these is St. Johns Catholic Church. There are also a few small shops in the area. Most people in Sunfish travel to find jobs or entertainment. They often go to Brownsville, which is the main town in Edmonson County. Another nearby larger town is Leitchfield in Grayson County. Bowling Green is about an hour's drive away. The area also has several historic cemeteries.
