History of Sunrise Manor
Sunrise Manor was created in May 1957. At that time, the nearby city of North Las Vegas wanted to expand into this area. However, the Clark County Commission, which manages the county, did not agree. So, they decided to create Sunrise Manor instead.
When it first started, Sunrise Manor was much smaller. By 1970, another community called Vegas Creek formed just south of it. But in 1980, Vegas Creek was no longer a separate place. Its area was added to Sunrise Manor, making Sunrise Manor much closer to its size today.
In 2018, some people living in Sunrise Manor thought it should become its own city. They felt that being part of Clark County meant Sunrise Manor didn't get enough attention. They believed becoming a city could help deal with issues like crime and homelessness better.
However, other residents worried that becoming a city would be too expensive and not work well. They compared it to problems faced by North Las Vegas. So, the idea of becoming a city was discussed but not put into action.
