Sunshine Beach is a lovely coastal town and suburb in Queensland, Australia. It's part of the Shire of Noosa, which is a local government area. In 2021, about 2,480 people called Sunshine Beach home. It's a great place to live by the sea!

Discover the History of Sunshine Beach

Before the 1920s, the area south of Noosa Headlands was known as Golden Beach. Not many people visited it back then.

In 1928, a man named Thomas Marcus Burke helped build roads and bridges from Tewantin. In return, he received land in this area. After World War II, his son, Marcus, started calling it Sunshine Beach to attract more people.

Over the years, many important places were built in Sunshine Beach:

  • Sunshine Beach State School opened its doors on 25 January 1982.
  • St Andrew's Anglican Church was built in 1990. It was designed to hold 150 people.
  • Saint Thomas More Primary School, a Catholic school, opened on 30 January 1990. It started with 92 students.
  • Sunshine Beach State High School opened on 1 January 1992.
  • St Thomas More's Catholic Church was built in 1994.
  • Sunshine Beach Uniting Church was built in 1997.
  • Noosa Flexible Learning Centre opened on 23 January 2006.

From 2008 to 2013, Sunshine Beach was part of the Sunshine Coast Region. But now, it's back in the Shire of Noosa.

Sunshine Beach State School

This is a government primary school for students from Prep (the first year of school) to Year 6. It's located on David Low Way. In 2018, the school had 799 students and 52 teachers. It also has a special education program to help students with different learning needs.

St Thomas More Primary School

This is a Catholic primary school for students from Prep to Year 6. You can find it on Ben Lexcen Drive. In 2018, 765 students attended this school, with 50 teachers helping them learn. The school follows the Marist tradition, which is a way of teaching based on certain values.

Montessori Noosa

Montessori Noosa is a private primary school for students from Prep to Year 5. It's located on Bicentennial Drive. In 2018, it had 40 students and 3 teachers. Montessori schools use a special teaching method where students learn at their own pace.

Sunshine Beach Surf Lifesaving Club

This club is right on the beachfront, near Dule Street and Belmore Terrace. Brave volunteers from the club patrol the beach to keep swimmers and surfers safe. They watch out for dangers and help people in need. The Sunshine Beach Surf Lifesaving Club started its patrols in 1980, making it one of Australia's newer surf life saving clubs.
