Sunungura "Gogo" Rusununguko (born April 12, 1978) is a former American football player. He played for four seasons in the Arena Football League (AFL). His teams included the Indiana Firebirds, Colorado Crush, and New Orleans VooDoo. He also played for the Las Vegas Gladiators, New York Dragons, and RiverCity Rage.
Gogo played college football at Ball State University. Before that, he attended Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana.
High School Sports
Sunungura Rusununguko went to Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. While there, he was a talented athlete. He played both offensive lineman and defensive lineman on the football team.
Besides football, Rusununguko was also a wrestler. In his junior year, he finished third in the state championships. He competed in the 215-pound weight class. As a senior, he had an amazing year. He won all 41 of his matches. He became the state champion in the heavyweight division.
College Football Career
Rusununguko played college football for the Ball State Cardinals. He was on the team from 1996 to 2000. In 1996, he was named the Ball State Outstanding Freshman. He shared this award with Adrian Reese. He played as a defensive tackle.
He missed the entire 1998 season. This was because of a bone infection called osteomyelitis. He recovered and returned to play. In 2000, he was a team captain for the Cardinals. He also earned second team All-Mid-American Conference honors.
Professional Football Journey
After college, Rusununguko joined the Indiana Firebirds in the Arena Football League (AFL). He played for them from 2001 to 2003. On November 17, 2003, he signed with the AFL's Colorado Crush.
He was traded to the Las Vegas Gladiators on January 20, 2005. A week later, on January 27, 2005, he signed with the New Orleans VooDoo. Later that year, on October 17, 2005, he joined the New York Dragons. He was released by the Dragons on January 10, 2006.
In the AFL, Rusununguko played as a fullback and a Linebacker. In 2009, he played for the RiverCity Rage. This team was part of the Indoor Football League.
