Suriname is a country in South America. It first joined the Olympic Games in 1960. Since then, Suriname has sent athletes to compete in most Summer Olympic Games.
The country did not participate in the 1964 Games. They also missed the 1980 Summer Olympics. This was because of a boycott led by the United States. A boycott means a country refuses to take part in something, usually to protest. Suriname has never competed in the Winter Olympic Games.
Suriname has won two Olympic medals so far. Both medals were won by a swimmer named Anthony Nesty. The National Olympic Committee for Suriname helps organize their Olympic teams. It was created in 1959 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee in the same year.
