In 2020, about 5,021 people lived in Swannanoa. This was an increase from 4,576 people in 2010. The community gets its name from the Swannanoa River, which flows through the area. Swannanoa is also part of the larger Asheville metropolitan area.

History of Swannanoa

Swannanoa is located in the mountains of western North Carolina. It sits a few miles west of Black Mountain and near eastern Asheville. This beautiful mountain area has many trails and forests.

The community also has a rich history of manufacturing. A famous factory called the Beacon Blanket Mill once operated here. The Alexander Inn, an important historic building, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. This list helps protect special places in the United States.

Geography and Location

Swannanoa is found in the eastern part of Buncombe County. It is located between the cities of Asheville and Black Mountain. A major highway, Interstate 40, runs through the main business area of Swannanoa.
