Bebbia, often called sweetbush, is a type of shrub that smells nice. It belongs to the daisy family, which includes many familiar flowers like sunflowers.
This plant grows naturally in the southwestern United States. You can find it in states like California, Nevada, Arizona, and parts of Utah, New Mexico, and Texas. It also grows in northern Mexico, in areas like Sonora and Baja California.
Sweetbush plants are known for their many bright yellow flowers. These flowers are small and disc-shaped, making the plant look very cheerful.
Different Kinds of Sweetbush
Scientists sometimes group all sweetbush plants into one main species, called Bebbia juncea. However, other experts recognize two different species.
The Global Compositae Checklist and The Plant List, which are important plant databases, list two main types of sweetbush:
- Bebbia atriplicifolia (A.Gray) Greene
- This species is found in Baja California Sur, a state in Mexico.
- Bebbia juncea (Benth.) Greene
- This is the most common type of sweetbush. It is further divided into two varieties:
- Bebbia juncea var. juncea
- Bebbia juncea var. aspera (Benth.) Greene
- This is the most common type of sweetbush. It is further divided into two varieties:
These different types show how diverse the sweetbush family can be, even though they all share similar features.
