Sydenham Falls is a cool waterfall that drops about 15-metre-high (49 ft)! It's called a "ribbon" waterfall because it's tall and thin, like a ribbon hanging down. You can find it near the Spencer Gorge / Webster's Falls Conservation Area in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

About Sydenham Falls

There are actually three waterfalls on Sydenham Creek: Sydenham Falls, Middle Sydenham Falls, and Lower Sydenham Falls. They are all quite close to Sydenham Road. It's important to know that all three of these waterfalls are on private land. This means they are not open for public visits.

The Other Sydenham Waterfalls

  • Lower Sydenham Falls is about 3-metre-high (9.8 ft) and 4-metre-wide (13 ft). It's a "classical" waterfall, which means it has a wider, more traditional shape.
  • Middle Sydenham Falls is about 5-metre-high (16 ft) and 5-metre-wide (16 ft). It's also a classical waterfall.

Both the Middle and Lower Sydenham Falls are "seasonal." This means they don't flow all year round. The best time to see them is in the springtime when there's lots of melting snow and rain.

Who Was Baron Sydenham?

The waterfalls are named after a person named Baron Charles E.P.T. Sydenham. He was a very important leader in Canada a long time ago. He served as the Governor-General of Upper Canada from 1839 to 1841. A Governor-General is like the Queen's representative in a country, helping to run things.
