Playing Career Highlights

Starting in Junior Hockey

Sylvain Cloutier started his hockey journey playing junior hockey for the Guelph Storm team. He played there from 1991 to 1994 in the Ontario Hockey League. During his time, he scored 106 goals and earned 237 points. He was even the team captain!

In 1992, the Detroit Red Wings picked him in the NHL Draft. He was the 70th player chosen overall. After junior hockey, he spent four seasons playing for the Adirondack Red Wings in the American Hockey League. However, he never played for the main Detroit Red Wings team.

Playing in the NHL

Cloutier did get to play in the NHL for a short time. He played seven games for the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1998–99 season.

Success in the UK Hockey League

In 2006, Cloutier joined the Coventry Blaze team in the United Kingdom. This team plays in the Elite Ice Hockey League. He helped the Blaze win the Elite League title that year. He won his second Elite League title with the Blaze in 2008.

Becoming a Player-Coach

After his time with the Blaze, Sylvain became a coach. He was the head coach for the Corpus Christi IceRays in the Central Hockey League. Later, he returned to the Elite League as a player-coach for the Hull Stingrays. He was a very popular player for the Stingrays. Because of this, his jersey number 83 was retired by the Hull Pirates. The Pirates are the team that took over after the Stingrays closed down in 2015.

Junior Coaching Experience

Cloutier began coaching junior hockey with the Bradford Rattlers in the 2014-15 season. He helped the team achieve a great record of 31 wins and 11 losses.
