Synod of the Northeast facts for kids
The Synod of the Northeast is an important group within the Presbyterian Church (USA). It helps guide and connect many local church groups. This synod is based in East Syracuse, New York.
The Synod of the Northeast looks after 22 smaller groups called presbyteries. These presbyteries are located in six New England states: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. They also cover two Mid-Atlantic States: New Jersey and New York. There is also a special Korean Presbytery that is not tied to a specific area.
History of the Synod
The Synod of the Northeast was created in May 1973. This happened when the main Presbyterian Church decided to organize its larger groups by region.
Several older state-based synods joined together to form this new regional synod:
- The Synod of New Jersey, which started in 1824.
