Särö's History
Särö was once a farming area. But in the late 1800s, it became a popular summer spot. People from nearby Gothenburg, especially the middle class, loved to visit.
A Popular Summer Resort
To make it easier for people to visit, a railway was built from central Gothenburg. Even kings, like King Oscar II and Gustav V, spent their summers here!
Today, Särö is a nice suburb of both Gothenburg and Kungsbacka. The older part of Särö has many beautiful villas. Some of these homes are hundreds of years old. Many people from Gothenburg still have summer houses in Särö.
Sports and Recreation
Särö is home to the Särö Lawn Tennisklubb. This local tennis club was started way back in 1897.
The Tennis Club's Royal Visitors
King Oscar II and Crown Prince Gustaf V often played tennis at the club. This was during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Today, the Särö Lawn Tennisklubb has both indoor and outdoor courts. You can find them in different parts of Särö.
