Kungsbacka is a town in Halland County, Sweden. It is the main town of Kungsbacka Municipality. In 2010, about 19,057 people lived there. Kungsbacka is also part of the larger Gothenburg area.
This town is known for being one of the wealthiest places in Sweden. This is partly because it is close to both the countryside and the big city of Gothenburg. Since 2020, the mayor of Kungsbacka has been Lisa Andersson.

History of Kungsbacka
Kungsbacka was first mentioned as a town in the 1400s. At that time, it was part of Denmark. In 1658, it became part of Sweden.
A river runs through the town. It was once used to transport goods. However, the river became overgrown over time. Even though people wanted to clear it, this did not happen. Some trade still happened from the coast. But the town became less important for sea trade over the centuries. Today, more than 2,000 businesses are located here. The river still flows through the town.
Fires and Growth
In 1846, a big fire destroyed the town center. Only a small red wooden cabin was saved, and it is still there today. More fires happened in 2006 and 2014. These fires also damaged the town center. Work is still ongoing to rebuild the wooden buildings that were lost.
Kungsbacka stayed a small town until the 1960s. In 1971, a change in local government made it the main town of the much larger Kungsbacka Municipality. The town then started to grow as part of the Metropolitan Gothenburg area. It is the last stop on the Gothenburg commuter rail system. Kungsbacka is about 28 kilometers (17 miles) from central Gothenburg.
