Tabernash is a small community in Grand County, Colorado, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated town, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. It also has a post office and is a census-designated place (CDP). This means the United States Census Bureau counts its population for official records. In 2020, about 401 people lived in Tabernash.

History of Tabernash
The Tabernash Post Office first opened its doors in 1905. The name "Tabernash" comes from a Ute Indian person. The Ute are a Native American tribe.
1984 Airplane Crash Near Tabernash
On August 10, 1984, a small plane, a Cessna L-19 Bird Dog, crashed in a forest close to Tabernash. The pilot, James Jeb Caddell, was flying from Granby, Colorado, to Jeffco Airport.
The plane's wreckage was not found until three years later, on August 23, 1987, by people hiking in the area. They also found a video camera that had been recording during the flight. The tape was badly damaged.
A local deputy sheriff, Dale Wood, managed to fix the tape. The video showed that the pilot had trouble because of the air conditions that day. The plane could not climb high enough to get over the rising land.
Geography of Tabernash
Tabernash is located in the beautiful valley of the Fraser River. A main road, U.S. Route 40, goes right through the community. This road leads northwest about 11 miles to Granby. It also goes southeast about 9 miles to Winter Park, which is a popular ski resort.
The total area of Tabernash is about 12.295 square kilometers (or about 4.75 square miles). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water.

Tabernash has a type of weather called a subarctic climate. This means it has very long and cold winters. During winter, the days are short and clear, and there isn't much rain. Most of the precipitation comes down as snow. The air is also very dry.
