The Fraser River is a cool river in central Colorado, United States. It's about 32.5 mi (52.3 km) long. This river flows into the much bigger Colorado River.

The Fraser River starts high up in the Rocky Mountains. It begins near Berthoud Pass in the Arapaho National Forest. This area is part of the continental divide, which separates rivers flowing to different oceans.

As the river flows, it goes through a big area called Middle Park in Grand County. It passes by towns like Winter Park, Fraser, and Tabernash. Finally, it joins the Colorado River near Granby.

Fishing in the Fraser River

The Fraser River is a great spot for fishing! It's home to several types of trout. You can find wild rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout, and cutthroat trout here.

Where to Fish

The river begins near Berthoud Pass. The first 8 miles (about 13 kilometers) of the river are on land owned by the National Forest. This means anyone can visit and fish there. In this area, the river is narrow and not very deep, but it's still a good place to cast a line.

As the river flows from Winter Park to Fraser, you can reach it in a few ways. There's the Fraser River Trail, which is perfect for hiking or mountain biking. You can also find access points at USFS campgrounds or from turnouts along the road.

However, there's one small part of the river that flows through private land in the town of Winter Park. You can't fish there. But you can always go fishing in the forested areas or where the river enters the valley.

Further downstream from the town of Fraser, it's harder to get to the river. Some of the best fishing spots are in a canyon past Tabernash. But remember, this part of the river is on private land.
