The Story of Taco Bueno
Taco Bueno was started in 1967 by a person named Bill R. Waugh. He was an art student from Abilene Christian University. The very first Taco Bueno restaurant opened in Abilene, Texas.
Over the years, Taco Bueno has been owned by different companies.
- In 1981, a British food company called Unigate bought Taco Bueno.
- In 1996, Taco Bueno was sold to CKE Restaurants, which also owns Carl's Jr..
- In 2001, a group of investors called Jacobson Partners bought the chain.
- In 2005, Palladium Equity Partners became the new owners. They also chose John Miller to be the CEO.
- Later, Ed Lambert became CEO in 2011, and Mike Roper took over in 2015.
New Ideas and Changes
In 2015, Taco Bueno started working with a mobile app called Tapingo. This allowed customers to get their food delivered for the first time.
Also in 2015, a company called TPG Growth bought Taco Bueno. TPG Growth is part of a larger investment firm called TPG Capital.
In 2017, the CEO of Taco Bueno appeared on the TV show Undercover Boss. On the show, bosses go undercover to see what it's like to work in their own companies.
In 2018, Omar Janjua became the new CEO. Later that year, Taco Bueno joined with Sun Holdings, a company that owns many other fast-food restaurants. This helped Taco Bueno to grow and improve its business. By January 2019, Taco Bueno was doing very well again.
