Talante is a small area or neighborhood, known as a barrio, located in the town of Maunabo, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 1,381 people lived there. It is a part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.
Discovering Talante's Past
Talante has an interesting history. After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government counted all the people living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that Talante and a nearby barrio, Quebrada Arenas, had a combined population of 1,140 people.
